Press Office
Role and functions
The Press Office in Stockholm was established in September 1989. Since 1994 it is an integrated part of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Sweden. The office in Stockholm is one among the 17 offices around the world.
The main task of the Press Office is to increase awareness on the Cyprus question, make the positions of the Cyprus Government known and enhance the image of Cyprus in general.
The Press Counsellor meets regularly with journalists and other media representatives in Sweden whom he briefs on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus question and Cyprus' accession process as well as on other issues of Cyprus interest. He meets also with academics, parliamentarians and government officials.
The office provides assistance to journalists, politicians and academics to get first hand information about the different aspects – political, economic, cultural etc. – of Cypriot society during their visit to Cyprus or arranges such visits.
The Press Office in Stockholm aims also at covering the main developments of the Cyprus problem and other important issues on Cyprus in order to provide information and make the Swedish public aware about various aspects of the Cyprus question, Cyprus' EU accession etc. For this purpose the Office has many publications, leaflets and other brochures, which can be sent free of charge to those interested.
Moreover the Press Office in Stockholm has tight relations and close cooperation with the Swedish-Cypriot association in Stockholm (Svensk-cypriotiska föreningen).
