for July 2008

The Statistical Service of Cyprus announces
that it has published the monthly report “Intra-Extra E.U Trade
Statistics (Summarised Data)” for May 2008. The main developments in
Cyprus foreign trade were:
(a) Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries
and arrivals from other Member States) in January-May 2008 amounted to
€2.948,0mn as compared to €2.436,8mn in January-May 2007. (b) During
May 2008 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third
countries and arrivals from other Member States) valued at €662,1mn.
(c) Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries
and dispatches to other Member States), including stores and
provisions, in May 2008 amounted to €112,8mn
Consumer
Price Index
The Consumer Price Index for July 2008,
decreased by 0,66 units or 0,60% to 109,85 units compared to 110,51 in
June 2008. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing,
footwear and furnishings due to summer sale discounts. Increases have
been recorded in the prices of petroleum products, electricity, certain
fresh vegetables and pork. 2. The rate of increase of the Index and
therefore the rate of inflation for July 2008 was 5,6% compared to 5,5%
in June 2008 and 2,4% in July 2007.
3. For the period January-July 2008, the CPI recorded an increase of
4,9% compared to the corresponding period of 2007.
