Resumption of talks – President Christofias' first meeting with Eroglu
The President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias will have his first meeting, this morning, with the new Turkish Cypriot leader Mr Dervis Eroglu, in the framework of the direct negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus problem, which are conducted under the United Nations’ auspices. The meeting will take place at 10 am in UNFICYP’s premises at Nicosia airport. Yesterday, the leaders of the two communities attended a dinner hosted by the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on the Cyprus problem, Mr Alexander Downer. The President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias described the dinner as a social meeting. In a statement on arrival at the restaurant, which is situated in the area of the Ledra Palace check point, President Christofias said it was a social meeting and added: “We shall meet each other, get to know each other. Tomorrow we have our first formal meeting. Tonight’s dinner is informal.”
