The President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias received Mr A. Downer
The President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias received yesterday, at the Presidential Palace, the UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Mr Alexander Downer. After the meeting Mr Downer told the press that ‘’we have got the leaders’ meeting tomorrow and tomorrow night there is the dinner and so I am looking forward to a nice day tomorrow and hopefully the leaders will make good progress.’’ Asked whether the proposal of President Christofias to link the property issue with the territorial issue can help the negotiations to move forward, Mr Downer said ‘’I think we have to wait and see how the negotiations go tomorrow and over the next few weeks. We have got the whole series of meetings lined up. And clearly there is a focus of the negotiations at the moment on the property question and that’s pretty much what we are focusing on the course of tomorrow. Yesterday the representatives met, they had a talk about the whole issue of the property question. It was a useful meeting for a couple of hours in the buffer zone. So, we will wait and see".
