Issue/Renewal of Passport

The Passport Section of the Ministry of Interior issues and renews passports and travel documents to Cypriot citizens. Children up to the age of 12 may be registered on their parent's passport, either their mother's or their father's upon the issue of a passport to their parent. The registration of a child born after such passport has been issued cannot be made electronically. It is necessary to obtain the consent of both parents for the issue of a passport or a travel document to minors under 18 years of age.

Applications for the issue or renewal of a passport or a travel document are submitted at the Consular Section of the Embassy if the applicant resides or visits (in the case of loss of passport) Sweden, Norway or Latvia.

 

The procedures and forms required in each case are set out below

Issue of passport for the first time:

  • Completed application form M.9 (English version) ( Greek version). The Consular Officer of the Embassy should endorse part V of the application.
  • Two recent photos 4x5 cm. The Consular Officer of the Embassy should certify one of the photos.
  • Official Birth Certificate.
  • Marriage certificate for women who want their husband's surname to be added to the passport.
  • Issuance fee of € 42,72 (SEK 400) for a passport consisting of 32 pages and € 68,34 (SEK 640) for a passport consisting of 64 pages.

If the applicants are public servants who hold a permanent position in the civil service, the passport is issued without charge only for them whereas it is necessary to submit a certificate from their employment service.

 

Renewal of passport expiring ten years after its issue:

  • The above requirements apply also for passports, which have expired.

 

Renewal of passports, which for different reasons have been issued for a period of less than ten years (loss, minors, members of the national guard):

  • Completed application form M.16 (Greek version only).
  • Submission of Expired passport.
  • Two recent photos 4x3 cm.
  • Official Birth Certificate or Identity Card or any other official document that declares the identity of the applicant.
  • The renewal is made without charge.

Application for a new Passport in case of loss:

  • Certificate issued by the police.
  • Completed application form M.9 (English version) (Greek version).
  • Two recent photos 4x3 cm.
  • Official Birth Certificate or Identity Card or any other official document that declares the identity of the applicant.
  • Issue fee of € 68,34 (SEK 640).

 

Note 1: Passports are issued for a limited period of time and are renewed without charge with duration of up to 10 years.

Note 2: the Consular Officer of the Embassy must certify the application and one photo.

Note 3: For conscripts (over 15 years) it is necessary to submit a certificate by Army Enrolment Office. Members of the military must submit a certificate from their military unit. For all those who have already completed their military service in the past two years, it is necessary to present their army discharge papers.
