President Christofias: we will go to the talks with an honest political disposition
"We are striving for a solution the soonest
possible; the struggle is hard but we fight, we struggle, we hope and
do not forget", the President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias
stressed, adding that "we will go to the talks on 3rd September with an
honest political disposition".
Speaking last night at an event organised in memory of the Cypriot
music composer Marios Tokas at Moni Municipal Park and referring to the
Cyprus issue, President Christofias reminded that the primary aim of
his governance is to achieve a solution the soonest possible, a
solution which will put an end to the occupation and will reunite the
territory, the people, the institutions, and the economy of the state.
"This can be achieved in the framework of a bizonal, bicommunal
federation as provided for by the High Level Agreements of 1977 and
1979. The united, federal, bicommunal, bizonal Republic of Cyprus will
be a state with a single sovereignty, a single identity and a single
international personality, in the framework of which there will be
political equality of the two communities, as defined by the relevant
UN Security Council resolutions" he said, and added: "We seek a
solution, which will be based on the principles of international and
European law; a solution that will safeguard the human rights and the
fundamental freedoms of the whole Cypriot population".
