Government Spokesman: settling is a crime of war

Turkish settling is a crime of war and this issue, which exists in Cyprus for so many years altering the demographic structure of the Cypriot people and especially Turkish Cypriots, must be terminated and resolved in a satisfactory manner with a solution of the Cyprus problem. The Government Spokesman Mr Stefanos Stefanou made the aforementioned statement, noting that the position of the G/C side on the issue of settlers was clear: "As a matter of principle, the solution of the Cyprus problem must terminate the settling and the settlers must leave. Besides, this issue has been discussed for a long time. It is acceptable that for humanitarian purposes, a number of settlers will remain. But, I repeat, our goal is for this matter of principle to be resolved in the framework of a solution". Mr Stefanou was commenting on a journalist's remark that President Christofias had stated that he would accept 50,000 settlers to remain on the island and that Mr Talat ascertained that everyone who had been living in the occupied areas for 30-40 years and held a "T/C citizenship" would remain.
