The Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said
yesterday that a good atmosphere and a mood for discussion was ascertained in
all the working groups and the technical committees discussing the aspects of
the Cyprus issue. He noted, however, that this was not enough, since the working
groups and the technical committees had to produce results, especially the
working groups, which are discussing issues of substance of the Cyprus problem.
Asked if the Turkish Cypriot side's response on the issues of substance was
positive, unlike in their public statements, Mr Stefanou replied: "Basically, as
of today, the working groups and the technical committees are commencing
intensive work". "The last two weeks were in the middle of the holidays and this
did not allow for continuous and intensive work to be done, including the fact
that, naturally, at the start of their operation they also had to clarify a
series of preliminary issues and to get acquainted with each other. From this
week onwards, we will begin intensive work and the process will show how far we
can go", he added.
