The
President on Limnitis checkpoint
“Even if Turkey insists on its intransigent
positions, the Greek Cypriot side will insist on defending the basic
principles for a viable, just under the circumstances and agreed
solution of the Cyprus problem", the President of the Republic Mr
Demetris Christofias said yesterday, in statements after the memorial
service of Archbishop Makarios III at Kykkos monastery and the sanctum
that was held at the tomb of Makarios at Throni in Panayia."The
endeavor is difficult," the President said and noted that"in the
course we will encounter obstacles and persistence on the part of
Turkey, but there is no other alternative course than the peace process
and our insistence on principles".
Asked about Turkey’s European course, Mr Christofias said that if the
present Turkish leadership wants and tries to lead Turkey in the
European Union, it has to lead the country to modernization, to
democratic reform and of course away from anachronistic concepts and
expansionist designs;"our side follows and analyses the developments"
he added. He also expressed the hope that democracy would prevail in
Turkey,"otherwise," he said,"we will continue to struggle, until we
find justice."
