The Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with his French
counterpart
In the framework of President Papadopoulos' official
visit to Paris, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr George Iacovou had a working
meeting yesterday with his French counterpart Mr Philippe Douste-Blazy, at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, which was conducted in a very
friendly climate the issue of illegal immigration and ways to deal with it in
the framework of the Euro - Mediterranean Partnership, EU fiscal perspectives
and negotiations within the World Trade Organisation (WTO) were discussed. On
this particular issue, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Blazy expressed
his satisfaction with Cyprus' support for the French positions during the recent
EU General Affairs and External Relations Council, which took place on 18
October 2005. He also showed great interest in the recent developments on the
Cyprus problem, in the issue of cooperation of Cyprus and France on energy
matters as well as on bilateral defence. The Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs
briefed in detail Mr Blazy on the Cyprus problem and on the positions of Cyprus
regarding the various issues that were discussed.
