Papandreou and Clinton discuss Cyprus problem

 

>During their 45-minute-long meeting yesterday at the State Department in Washington D.C. the Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed, inter alia, the Cyprus problem. The Head of American diplomacy confirmed US support for the ongoing process under the UN auspices to resolve the Cyprus problem and she commended the leaders of the two communities on their “hard work in these settlement talks and on the progress that they are making”. In statements to the press after her meeting with the Greek Premier, Ms Clinton said she and Mr Papandreou discussed the latter’s continuing efforts to reinforce Greece’s relations with Turkey. They also discussed developments in the Balkans and NATO’s operations in Afghanistan. Ms Clinton noted “Greece’s leadership and strategic role in the Balkans” and commended Premier Papandreou’s personal initiatives in the diplomatic field and particularly as regards relations with Turkey. -9.3.2010
